LED Lighting Pricing: Got confusion?

PDFPrintE-mail

What the heck is the deal with online LED Lighting pricing?

LED Lighting Pricing

So you want to buy some LED DJ Effects lights online and you pretty much see the same prices on a few top LED lighting sites and another price on ebay. You are asking yourself why are there different prices for the same products?

First off the prices on our Performance LED Lighting's site are what we call “MAP” prices, or Minimum Advertised Pricing.  This means that per our agreement with Blizzard Lighting, this is the lowest price we can publicly advertise without violating our agreement.  All authorized dealers must comply with this policy, or they will not be able to sell the gear.

If you see an advertised price lower than MAP here are a couple of the things you might experience:

  • The seller is not an authorized dealer  = no manufacturer warranty
  • The seller says they have it stock but after you order the “in-stock” item you get a call saying it is back ordered all the sudden.
  • The seller may not be able to deliver the products because they aren’t being supplied by Blizzard Lighting due to violation of the MAP policy.  As Blizzard Lighting products become more popular people will tell you anything to get the sale.  You will always get a straight answer from Performance LED Lighting.

That being said here are a few ways we separate ourselves from the competition:

We use the lights we sell.  Therefore we can give you real world advice on what fixtures are best for your needs.  This will assist you in making a good decision when choosing between different led lights.

We do not tell you we have items in stock in order to get the sale.  You won’t get a call from us the day you are expecting your lights to arrive saying that they are back-ordered.

Once you get the lights we follow up to see if you have any question after receiving them.

Because we are an authorized blizzard lighting dealer your products carry the full manufacturer warranty.

We offer free shipping on every order over $100.

Can we go lower?  In many cases yes!  How do I get the lower price?  Well, the best way is to Email or Call us (702.608.1152) with the fixtures and quantity you are interested in.  The more fixtures you buy the better we can deal.

What are the key takeaways from this article:

  • Prices on Authorized Dealer websites are Minimum Advertised
  • Performance LED Lighting offers free shipping on orders over $100
  • Quantity orders can get a discount
  • We provide personal road tested and honest advice before the sale
  • You will get support after the sale

Top 5 Reasons to use Wireless DMX 512

PDFPrintE-mail

Wireless DMX 512 is perfect for DJ effects lighting.

Here's why you should be looking to upgrade to wire-free operation now:

Lightcaster Wireless DMX 512

1.  No more cables to trip on!

This cleans up live events where the public is near or on top of your DMX lighting cables and gear.  Securing cables for trip hazards isn't necessary anymore.

2.  Faster set up.

Since you are not running long lengths of DMX 512 cable, nor spending the time to tape or secure them to the floor or walls, your setup and tear down time is decreased.

3.  Very affordable.

The Wicicle wireless DMX Transmitter or Wicicle wireless DMX Receivers are only $149.99.  Multiple receivers can work with a single transmitter further decreasing costs.

4.  Compact and light.

Transmitter and receivers are compact and light.  They can be installed directly on a fixture or truss.  They can even be concealed behind fixtures for stealthy operation.

5.  It's Just Plain Cool.

No worries about cables going bad or being damaged on site.   Want a moving head way in the back?  That long run to the end of the club is easy to reach with wireless.  Look Mom, no wires!

Blizzard's New Tri LED PAR 64 Exclusive

PDFPrintE-mail

Searching for a Tri LED Par Can that is paint blistering, bald head burning (not really, it's LED!), holy crap that's bright and still affordable?

Tri LED Par

Look no further.  Performance LED lighting has the exclusive first look at Blizzard Lighting's new Rocklite Tri LED par can.

  • DMX 512 addressable in either 3 channel or 7 channel modes
  • Dual mounting yokes
  • 14,000 lux @ 1 meter

Tri LED Par Can

Overall impressions

These things are extremely bright.  The first show we tested them out on was in a small bar setting with a local cover band.  Four of them were mounted on t-stands downstage left and right, along with some Rocklite RGBAWs, which served as dedicated lead vocal front lighting.  Due to the proximity of the lights to the stage, they were throttled down to around 20% of total output, give or take.  Any more and the stage would look like the surface of the sun.  The color mixing is excellent, as would be expected from a tri LED configuration.  They would make a good replacement for a 500 watt standard par can.

Cooling

As they are high powered LEDs, there is a cooling fan located in the back of the fixture.  Several people asked about them and put their hands to the front of the fixture and were very surprised to find cool air flowing on their fingers!  And that's one of the great things about LED lighting, little to no heat.

Weight

The Rocklite Tri were light, fairly compact and solidly built.  A t-bar with 3 fixtures was easily picked up with one hand and transported, pre-wiring and all.  Awesome for mobile DJ Effects lighting or other portable system.

Conclusions

For anyone wanting a super bright, affordable tri led par can, the Rocklite Tri is tough to beat.  It has more brightness than other tri par 64 style cans, at a more affordable price.  We will keep you posted as soon they are available.

DMX 512 Control – Hardware or Software?

PDFPrintE-mail

2 Options for DMX 512 Control

When you need to control your DJ effects lights, you really have two options, a dedicated hardware controller, or a computer based software solution.  Here are the pro's and con's of each.

Hardware Pros

  • Very portable
  • Single purpose design can eliminate crashes / problems during a show
  • Can be simpler to use

Obey DMX 512

Software Pros

  • More flexible and expandable
  • Greater number of scenes or presets stored
  • Can work off line with out lights using visualizer software
  • Easier to control moving head lights

DMX 512 Control

Hardware Cons

  • Not as flexible, usually has a fixed number of DMX 512 channels
  • Usually not expandable
  • Low cost consoles don't control moving heads very well

Software Cons

  • Usually more expensive considering the cost of the computer
  • Can be more prone to crashes
  • Not as portable
  • Can have steeper learning curve to operate

The choice of hardware or software really comes down to your preferences.  For some who don't need the complexity of a software solution, hardware is the way to go.  For those with large and complex setups, a computer based option can be the better choice.

Making Sense of LED Lighting Applications

PDFPrintE-mail

This is a basic guide for LED Lighting applications and types of LED fixtures used for DJ effects lighting.

What's a PAR?  Do I need a moving head or a strip fixture?  Here's some basic definitions of the types of LED lighting you will encounter in a basic DJ or club setting.

LED PAR

The most basic and common of LED effects lights.  Usually has at least Red, Green and Blue LED's, and is DMX 512 controllable.  Can use 5mm, 10mm or 1 or 3 watt LED's.  Some are traditionally shaped to look like old style PAR cans (Parabolic Aluminized Reflector).  Others are flat, like the Puck series.  Most have a medium beam spread, but can be found with a tighter beam.  Used for washing a stage or dance floor with colors.

LED Moving Head

Also called intelligent or moving yoke, These lights can move both side to side and up and down, allowing them to be used as dance floor lighting and also for in the air effects. Most will have multiple colors that can be changed on the fly, and are able to project patterns, called gobos.

Torrent 90 Moving Head

LED Disco Effects Light

A wide range of fixtures are available that project beams and dots of light, used for dance floor DJ effects lighting.

Aurura LED Light

LED Strip

A wash light in a strip configuration.  Usually long and narrow, with separately controllable sections that can be sequenced for visual interest.  Best uses are for lighting a backdrop, rear eye candy, or general stage or dance floor wash.

ColorStorm 252 Strip Light

LED Panel

A flat panel style with either 5mm or 10mm LEDs.  Used for wash lighting, and eye candy.  Multiple units look good grouped together and sequenced for chases and patterns.

Rocker Panel LED

LED Pinspot

A very narrow beam fixture, commonly used for lighting mirror balls.  Also can be used for up lighting, and in multiples for aerial effects with fog or haze.

PinBall RGB LED Spot

LED lighting applications are wide and far reaching.  There are many styles and choices of fixtures to choose from.  LED's future is bright!
